The Guardian’s Grounds

Huddled around a campfire deep within a remote forest you suddenly discover there is something out there in the night other than the crickets.
Today, most of the locals refer to the mountain that lies above the New River near Prince, WV as Garden Grounds Mountain but a half-century ago, a few of the old ones spoke of the area as The Guardian’s Grounds. There, a few of these long-time residents told stories of eerie encounters with a person they came to know as The Guardian. Some claimed The Guardian was more of a spirit-being, than a human. Other considered him an angel, or more specifically a sort of guardian angel. Yet all seemed to describe a similar type of encounter that usually occurred during a quiet night around a campfire, in the remote mountain forest. A first, the only sounds to be heard were the peaceful sounds of crickets. But soon, as they listened more closely, they began to sense and even hear something else out there, moving in the night.
